Snapchat announced that it settled with Frank "Reggie" Brown about the app's creation in "mutually agreeable terms" between Brown, Snapchat and the app's young CEO and co-founder, Evan Spiegel.

"Reggie Brown originally came up with the idea of creating an application for sending disappearing picture messages while he was a student at Stanford University," Snapchat claimed in an official statement about the settlement released today. "He then collaborated with Spiegel and Murphy on the development of Snapchat during its early and most formative days."
The settlement ends a struggle making its way through Los Angeles Superior Court over the explosively popular app's creation.

"We are pleased that we have been able to resolve this matter in a manner that is satisfactory to Mr. Brown and the Company," Spiegel said in the statement. "We acknowledge Reggie's contribution to the creation of Snapchat and appreciate his work in getting the application off the ground."
The settlement finishes off a recent controversy marring the app's success. The news comes as Snapchat is pushing further into accepting advertising and exploring content discovery. New updates to the app are supposedly coming later this year, the company has claimed.
The news comes quietly as the tech press and Silicon Valley obsess over the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch, a distraction that Snapchat unquestionably took into account as it releases the somewhat tawdry news.
