Mailbox for Mac will be rolling out to desktop for a few savvy users selected for a beta test. The Mac version will be made available for testers who signed up for the beta roll-out as well as a handful of selected Mailbox users.
Mailbox was created by Orchestra, which was bought out by sharing service Dropbox. The app was originally crafted as a time-saving email tool for iOS devices, although many users have clamored for a version suited to their Macbooks.
The leading idea behind Mailbox was incredibly simple yet revolutionary enough that iPhone users actually lined up to try out the service when it first dropped. When you look at your inbox, you're brain probably sees it as a to-do list. Mailbox simply leans in to that idea, turning emails into tasks, like compiling bills to pay, for example.
The service lets you easily swipe email into different folders, as well as letting users tap the "snooze" button on notes that don't require immediate brain-space.
The Mac version will integrate the features that made the mobile app so popular, while embracing how people use their different devices. Giving your thumbs a break, a notable feature is the ability to earmark emails from your phone that will be easy to respond to when you're sitting at a keyboard.
The Mailbox team has been quiet about when a finalized version will be made available, but since they are relying on comments from the beta testers, a wide-release version is probably a ways away.
