Dead Island Film Shambles On; Deep Silver Teams Up With Production Company To Bring Zombie Horror Title To The Big Screen Once Again

The Dead Island Film Adaptation Will Never Die! Deep Silver Has Found A New Partner

True to its spirit, the Dead Island film adaptation is just going to keep coming and coming. Deep Silver's zombie game has been once again optioned for a big screen adaptation.

Deep Silver has teamed with Occupant Entertainment in bringing the film version to life. The game is about surviving a zombie outbreak on a tropical island paradise. This is not the first time that the game has been optioned. Back in 2011, Lionsgate snatched up the rights after the game's first trailer hit almost immediately. The trailer, which is the best part of the game, is one of the finest previews of any film or game and is a Memento-esque story told backwards and forwards. The score alone is worth an award.

The Lionsgate production suffered a studio shakeup and thus, the rights came back to Deep Silver who have been shopping it around ever since. Occupant Entertainment was one of the original bidders to the property back in 2011.

Occupant is a little known indie studio. They haven't made many films, but the ones they have - such as All The Boys Love Mandy Lane and The Wackness - show that they have a good eye for stories. They are currently in pre-production of a new take on Madame Bovary starring Mia Wasikowska and the upcoming horror film The Woods.

"Deep Silver has created a highly successful game franchise based on very cinematic, widely viewed and well received trailers, which provide a great template for launching a film franchise with a distinctive and commercial take on the zombie apocalypse," said Occupant partners Joe Neurauter and Felipe Marino.

No talk of a director has been mentioned. "We want to find the right filmmaker and present somewhat of an open canvas, to make something distinct and original that also appeals to and expands the core audience." continued Neurauter and Marino.

The question is: do they make a movie that is like the original trailer, or do they adhere more to the game? The game was disappointing and rather boring, and possessing none of the creative spirit infused in that trailer. It was another zombie game in a very crowded room full of em.

But that trailer. Damn, still gets me.
