The revelation that the enigmatic wraith character that resurrects protagonist Talion in the upcoming Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is, in fact, Celebrimbor, forger of several of the rings of power, was a great triumph to the Tolkien community. A new trailer takes us inside Celebrimbor's abilities.
Celebrimbor Concept Art Is Gruesome, Awesome
First things first, Celebrimbor is pissed and rightly so. The main focus of the wraith's abilities is his power to dominate the orcs Talion encounters, which "allows Talion to pierce the minds of his adversaries, allowing him to identify their strengths and fears". Which is fantastic on both on narrative and visual level, and in terms of enemy AI and creation. Finally, a game where the enemy is just as unique as the character.
Talion, basically, has a little shadow, that goes in and out with him, and what can be the use of him is more than he can see. Celebrimbor aids in combat as well, appearing as a ghostly white shadow that can run down enemies and enhance Talion's already fearsome skillset.
Sniper Elite III DLC Delivers New Rifles And New Maps For Free
Celebrimbor seems to exist in the hazy gray of the shadow plane, the place where Frodo went whenever he put on the Ring in the movies. The world darkens and Talion, fueled by the wraith, seems to go into hunting mode. Enemies are highlighted red and ready to be taken down.
This writer is curious to see how the new Nemesis system, which gives fears and strengths to the enemy AI, works out in a moral universe. Will you begin to feel for these characters now that they are ever so slightly more than pixelated characters on a screen? It is hard to tell. But we will find out on September 30 when Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor hits shelves for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
