Video Games Live Performance At San Diego Comic Con Next Week

The popular concert series, Video Games Live, is returning to the San Diego Comic Con next week for some very special performances.

Video Games Live is a mash up of video game music, a rock concert, footage and a night at the symphony. "Top orchestras and choirs around the world perform along with exclusive synchronized video footage and music arrangements, synchronized lighting, well known internet solo performers, electronic percussion, live action and unique interactive segments to create an explosive one-of-a-kind entertainment experience."

The San Diego Symphony Orchestra will be performing some of your favorite scores and medleys from the video game medium. The concert will take place next Thursday, July 24 at the Embarcadero Marina Park South (right behind the Convention Center).

The concert will feature a wide range of music, from Command & Conquer: Red Alert, a 30th anniversary tribute to Tetris and yes, Viking Jesus.

It will also include the World Premiere of the score to Blizzard's upcoming Heroes of the Storm, conducted by legendary composer Glenn Stafford. Attendees will also get a first listen to Warlords of Draenor, the next expansion in the World of Warcraft MMO, conducted by Audio Director and Composer Russell Brower.

Garry Schyman will be on hand to conduct the symphony to his stunningly good Bioshock score.

But what you should be really excited about is singer, composer Jillian Aversa, who has performed and composed for many games including Halo, God of War, Civilization, Soul Calibur V and her husband Andrew, better known as zircon, performing their arrangement of the Aria Di Mezzo Carattere. The song is better known as the Opera Theme from Final Fantasy VI and is among one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever rendered. It is one of the greatest moments in one of the greatest games.

There's a whole lot more, too! Fan favorites such as Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid, Skyrim, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Castlevania, Portal and Sonic will all be performed.

Concert goers do NOT need a Comic Con badge to get in. However, they do need a ticket. There are still some available, which you can buy here. Tickets range from $25 to $56.

Divorced from the video game experience, certain scores can rival some of the best modern classical compositions and are works of art in their own right. You owe it to yourself to see the music performed live at least once. You will be so glad you did.
