While not based on any specific video game for its story, Pixels will undoubtedly be of interest to gamers of a certain age. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Centipede will feature in this retro action mash-up.
Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie Coming This Fall
Okay, bad news first. Peter Dinklage definitely looks as if he'll be the breakout badass supporting character with his mullet and devil-may-care pose, but unfortunately this is an Adam Sandler movie and one where Kevin James plays the President of these here United States of America, no less. The Harry Potter director at the helm is Chris Columbus, also unfortunately the director of two of the worst Harry Potters. On the plus side again is Josh Gad (the voice of the unexpectedly awesome Olaf from Frozen) and Michelle Monaghan of True Detective.
In the movie, aliens have been misinterpreting satellite feeds from Earth and taking video games for representations of Earth life (excuse me while I parkour out for some groceries), basing their invasion strategy on early arcade classics such as Pac-Man and Space Invaders. Columbus is keeping exactly which games will be featured close to the vest.

The exact time period upon which the aliens base their attack hasn't been revealed yet, so we can all wildly speculate what these classics are that Columbus has tipped his hat to. Street Fighter II Turbo? I'm sure Andrew Bryniarski wouldn't mind reprising Zangief!
