Destiny Beta Progress Might Transfer To Full Release, Level Cap Revealed

Don't get too attached to your Destiny beta characters and progress just yet -- Bungie isn't sure it will carry your data over into the full game.

The decision has not yet been made, meaning the developers could still allow you to transfer your progress into the full game when it releases in September. It will depend on if the team wants to make significant changes, Bungie says, and how the beta progresses as a whole.

"The beta is a test. It's extremely unknown as to what the outcome will be," Bungie community manager David "Deej" Dague told Eurogamer. "So, it's certainly not a promise or an announcement that we're making at this time. It all depends on what we learn and how things shake out. So, we're certainly not telling players they can carry their progress over, but we haven't made any announcements either way."

It's also been confirmed that the level cap, just like in the alpha, is only eight. Knowing that, you probably won't be losing too much if Bungie does announce that the full version of Destiny will be a clean slate. There is definitely some higher-level loot you can purchase or find that will require level nine or higher, which would be worth holding on to if the beta progress carries over.

If not, though, reaching level eight doesn't take very long, and I can't imagine too many would feel hard done by if Bungie decides starting over is the best option when Destiny launches this September. The beta began yesterday on PS4 and PS3, and will launch on July 23 for Xbox One and Xbox 360, ending for all consoles on July 27.
