When James Rolfe took to Youtube back in 2006 and ranted about video games, he was just precisely that: another angry video game nerd. A staple since the very beginning of the game's industry, each and every single one of us has donned the persona in some way at some point during our lives.
Fast forward eight years, however and James Rolfe is THE Angry Video Game Nerd. And he's got a new movie coming out that can prove it. Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie will blend science fiction, adventure, and comedy to follow a disgruntled gamer (Rolfe) who must overcome his fear of the worst video game of all time in order to save his fans. A road trip movie, the prediction for hijniks and at least a few shenanigans are quite high. What exactly will be the worst video game of all time? E.T. Of course it's E.T.
The film will be a loving homage to the old B-films of the 80s. I'm thinking it will be exactly like The Wizard, complete with Power Glove references. Truth be told, if every movie were more like The Wizard, the world would be a much better place.
Assassin's Creed Coming To iOS Platform Soon
"Entirely crowd-funded by the webseries' large international fan-base, Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie raised what was, at the time in 2012, the second most ever for a film campaign online. The film also tapped into its fans in the Industry, with more than 80 VFX artist volunteers contributing to the film and a score by AVGN fan and Emmy-Award winning composer, Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica)"
The movie will debut next Monday, July 21 in Los Angeles. Sorry fellow video game nerds, the screening is all sold out. This will be followed by screenings at Comic-Con and Fantasia Fest (both of which are sold out, too), before launching into a nationwide tour. The tour will visit more than 20 cities in the U.S. and Canada and nearly all engagements are sold out. You can try and find tickets here. But fear not, the movie will be hitting VOD on September 2 and then Blu Ray come some time in November.
You can of course catch up with all of Rolfe's alter-ego on his Youtube channel here. Watch the trailer below!
