The 1990s kid sensation Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers is about to get a big screen reboot thanks to Hollywood superproducer Roberto Orci. His blood type is SUPER!
New Thor In The Comics Will Be A Woman
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
Zack Stenz and Ashley Miller are the writing duo tapped to bring the bitchin' rad super teens to life in an incarnation for the new millennium. You may know Stenz and Miller from their work on X-Men: First Class and Thor. Roberto Orci, executive producer on TV's Sleepy Hollow, the two Star Trek reboot movies and the Amazing Spider-Man movies, will... you guessed it - executive produce! But he'll also be working with Stenz and Miller on the general storyline.
Ghostbuster/Turtles Crossover Comic Coming!!!
I have no particular affection for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers, but the basic concept (teenage superheroes doing martial arts, sometimes getting in big robots to fight giant monsters) is blockbuster-friendly enough that, with the right talent, this could be something quite fun.
Now, I say "bring the Power Rangers into the new millennium", but my experience and knowledge of the Power Rangers ended somewhere in the mid 90s. Some cursory Wiki'ing reveals just how much Power Rangers there's been since I stopped watching. They are now in their twentieth (!) season and they are also called Power Rangers Super Megaforce. That's right - it is still on TV right now!
None of these things are really "nostalgic" things anymore. Just because I enjoyed stuff in the 90s didn't mean it ever went away. For instance, we've had continuous Transformers movies in theaters for 2007 and, yes, there is a Transformers cartoon on TV right now. Calling these things 80s/90s throwbacks makes you the silly goose!
