Cliff Bleszinski Returning To Game Development By Opening New Game Studio Named Boss Key Productions

Game designer Cliff Bleszinski is opening a new game development studio in North Carolina named Boss Key Productions.

Bleszinski, who spent roughly 20 years at Epic Games working on the Unreal, Gears of War, and Jazz Jackrabbit franchises, announced two years ago that he was stepping away from game development. He teased his return on Twitter earlier this week, and today tweeted a new account for Boss Key.

Polygon is reporting that papers were filed in April that made Bleszinski the owner of a new business registered in Raleigh, NC, which we now know to be Boss Key. The papers also indicate that former EA producer and Guerrilla Games co-founder Arjan Brussee will be acting as the company's COO. Brussee is currently listed on his LinkedIn page as an executive producer at Visceral Games, where he's working on Battlefield Hardline, and worked with Bleszinski on Jazz Jackrabbit in the past.

Another document filed with United States Patent and Trademark Office, according to Polygon, describes the studio's work as the production of online titles. It includes: "downloadable multi-player interactive computer game programs; computer and video game software; downloadable computer and video game software; downloadable electronic games via the Internet and wireless devices; downloadable computer application software in the field of games; interactive computer and video game programs."

The header image of Boss Key's Twitter account references something known as Project Bluestreak, which may be the studio's first game. The studio's website did list social media links to Bluestreak, but has since removed them. The first game (possibly Bluestreak) is set to be revealed on July 8, according to a countdown timer Bleszinski launched.

When contacted by Polygon Bleszinski stated, "I do not comment on rumors and speculation on the birthday of the nation that could allow a game designer to have a fantastic 20 year run at his first studio and then take nearly two years off only to seek out funding and start his new lean, agile, fun startup in Raleigh, N.C."
