As expected, Amazon today revealed its rumored smartphone, called the Fire Phone. It is the first phone the company has produced and joins the retail giant's line of devices such as Kindle Fire tablets and the new Fire TV media-streaming box.

As reported by the AP, Amazon revealed the Fire Phone at a media event today as anticipated, putting a lot of emphasis on the device's build. It will boast a 4.7-inch HD display 'ideal for one-handed use', Qualcomm processor, and 2GB of RAM.
A major feature is "Firefly", its ability to snap and scan objects and offer you a purchasing option via Amazon, leveraging the power of the retail site. If you take a picture of a book title or Shazam listens to a song playing, it can direct you to a place to buy it, or show the song on Amazon. It can also provide information this way--snapping a picture of a painting will bring you to its Wikipedia entry, and viewing a show can offer its IMDB page.

As such, the 13MP camera and its quality were heavily stressed by CEO Jeff Bezos, who ensured the device will take great pictures. The pricing seem to be standard: a $199.99 price tag with a two-year contract for the 32GB model, or $299.99 for the 64GB version. You'll also get one year of Prime free regardless of if you subscribe now. The Fire Phone is available for pre-order now, but won't ship until July 25.
