Has there ever been anything in the history of gaming as curious or as studied as EVE Online, the hugely popular PC spaceship simulator? Does that term 'spaceship simulator' even capture the depths that the game reaches? A Tale of Internet Spaceships, an Indiegogo documentary, hopes to enlighten both veterans and newcomers alike about what EVE Online is all about.
EVE Online Book A Kickstarter Success
Sorgenfri Productions, comprised of students from Malmo University in Sweden, have finally announced that their film will be premiering July 11, 2014 in Sweden as well as being published on major video sites like Youtube and Vimeo.
Per the press release: The documentary, filmed during a fan convention in Reykjavik in April 2013, aims to give an in-depth look at what makes EVE Online special and why people devote so much of their lives to it. This candid exploration of a video game community investigates the sometimes complicated relationship between EVE's dedicated player base and the game's developers, CCP Games. It also documents one of the most tumultuous times in the game's lifespan - the release of the Incarna expansion - which turned out to be one of the most important moments in the history of online roleplaying games.
World of Tanks Update 9.1 Finally Released
EVE Online is more than just an "sci-fi MMO", it's a culture, it's a business, it's a government. It is a way of life to many people. I dare not tread in these waters, so established is the history and politics of the game. The stories are so legendary, from massive fraud to creative vendettas, that it is almost like observing an indigenous tribe of natives. A group of well funded, Libertarian natives, but natives nonetheless.
A Tale of Internet Spaceships was crowdfunded for $3,000, handed out over 82 backers via Indiegogo.
Watch the teaser trailer below and be sure to tune in on July 11 for the world premiere of this fascinating little look into a universe far stranger than you or I can imagine. You can visit the full site here.
