Sources from Hollywood are reporting that FOX is interested in finally getting a Magic: The Gathering adaptation off the ground. The best part is that they're dipping into a very, very accomplished well to make it happen.

Deadline reports that FOX has tapped Bryan Cogman, a story editor, producer and writer for HBO's fantasy hit Game of Thrones, to script out a franchise for the much beloved card game.
Oh man, oh man, oh man. Magic: The Gathering was the gateway drug that got me into my obsession with card and board games that lasts even to this day. Created in 1993 by designer Richard Garfield, the collectible card game (CCG) introduced players to fantastical realms, creatures and characters. The game has persisted and evolved for the last 21 years, updating itself three times a year. None of my old cards would even be legal in any format these days.

FOX has more than enough storylines for a franchise. Obviously, the one that I think most Magic players would want to see is The Brothers War between the master tinkerers Urza and Mishra that basically lays the foundation for many of the sets and expansions that came after. The whole storyline was adapted into a three book saga back in the late 90s. If they want to go epic, they can include the mechanical, villainous Phyrexians. The adventures of the Weatherlight, an underloved expansion, could be a more Pirates of the Caribbean-esque swashbuckling adventure. Then there's the rage and redemption of Kamahl, Ixidor and Phage from the Odyssey expansion and...
I could go on.
