Nintendo's E3 Digital Event was a source of plenty of news this morning, including the gameplay reveals of Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Super Smash Bros For 3DS Release Date Finally Announced
The titles played a brief role in Nintendo's E3 video, which the company streamed in lieu of a traditional press conference. The first gameplay footage of the games was revealed in the video, which shows the 3D battles that debuted in Pokemon X and Y as well as some 3D environments.
Strangely, the footage notes with some fine print "Game in 2D. Some areas also playable in 3D". It's unclear what exactly this means--is the overworld is not always in 3D? That would be an odd step back, but maybe the team is seeking to incorporate some new elements while keeping the spirit of the original game intact. The clip also notes that the footage is not final.
New Super Smash Bros. Playable Character Revealed, Lady Palutena Joins The Fray
We see some significant mega evolutions in the trailer as well, proving that the remakes will be taking elements from Pokemon X and Y. The mega evolutions for the starter Pokemon are all present, showing off some menacing versions of Blaziken, Mudkip and Sceptile. Mudkip in particular looks as if it's been hitting the gym quite a bit, with a pretty big transformation on display.
The legendary Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire also show off their mega evolutions, with new and improved versions of Groudon and Kyogre (a personal favorite of mine) impressing. Nintendo described the mega evolutions of these legendaries in a press release:
"Also confirmed today is that the Pokémon featured on the Pokémon Omega Rubyand Pokémon Alpha Sapphire game packages are in fact Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre, a newly revealed transformation of the Legendary Pokémon Groudon and Kyogre. These two extremely powerful Pokémon clashed in an epic battle that once sent Groudon into a long slumber within the magma beneath the planet's crust and drove Kyogre into a deep sleep at the bottom of the ocean floor. "The awesome transformation is a result of Primal Reversion, when Groudon and Kyogre reclaim their original power from nature's energy and obtain even greater power than they already have. The power within Primal Reversion is still being discovered, as well as what connection may lie between Primal Reversion and Mega Evolution."
Check out the footage below, and get ready for the 3DS remakes when they launch on November 28.
