Perhaps the biggest hit of an E3 filled with big hits was the mysterious, thrilling trailer to the upcoming PS4 title No Man's Sky. Shuffled into the mix past the halfway point of a very long and involved presentation, the trailer captivated audiences worldwide. What was this thing we are looking at? Is that a dinosaur? Wait, was that a spaceship? Is this really happening? Yes, yes and most definitely yes.
Microsoft Shows Off Fable Legends, 4 Player Co-Op At E3 2014
The game is developed by Hello Games, a four person operation out of Britain that previously made Joe Danger. There is no readily apparent goal or objective in No Man's Sky, all it asks of you is to open yourself up to a larger universe and explore. The game is entirely procedurally generated, much like Minecraft is. The team itself rendered few of the planets you will travel to, letting the programming create an infinite amount of planets by itself for you to explore in a massively multiplayer online first person exploration game.
Have you ever experienced that sense of awe as you stumble across something few, if any, have ever seen before? The joy of discovery? No Man's Sky hopes to replicate that. The entire universe is at your disposal, go anywhere, discover anything. Engage in space battles, walk amongst pre-historic worlds and shattered ruins. Keep your discoveries a secret or let the other players know about your find. It's a universe of possibilities out there.
There May Still Be Time To Get In The Battlefield: Hardline Beta!
The game reminds me of a primitive version of the game described in the novel Ready Player One, a game of infinite potential. No Man's Sky is set to debut on the PS4, though no official confirmation of other consoles nor a release date has been given at this time. Needless to say, we all want to know more about it.
