Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios, developer of popular first person heist series Payday looks like they nabbed a big payday of their own, hiring Giancarlo Esposito to appear in a new short film promoting the upcoming DLC of Payday 2.
Dragon Age: Inquistion Screenshots Are Beautiful, Dangerous
The DLC, named The Big Heist is due out on June 17 and introduces the players to a new character: The Dentist, a dead eyed, monotone, supremely confident schemer. Naturally, the filmmakers got Gus Fring from Breaking Bad to play him. It's clear the director of the short simply told Esposito 'Be Gus' and voila, a character was born.
The eight minute short film follows a handsome man, Mr. Steele, as he waits in the dentist office. Already, everything feels a little off. He's tense, and not just because he's at the dentist's. Steele is nervously looking at the police officer sitting beside him, sweating at the thought of...what? The atmosphere of the entire piece is ominous, it knows far more than it's letting on but will tell you, in time. Much like Esposito's dentist himself, really.
Steam Game Anomaly Defenders Is Fantastic
Giancarlo's magnetic personality and fierce 'LOOK AT ME' eyes help keep the slightly too long movie from crashing out about halfway. You just want to listen to the man scheme and ever since the Breaking Bad S4 finale, we've missed his kind of icy cold, manipulative demeanor. And nobody watches Revolution anyways, so that doesn't count.
The shot film sets up a lot of the upcoming DLC for Payday 2, set to drop later this year. First up is The Big Heist this month, but also teased or mentioned are the Hoxton Breakout, The Diamond and the Golden Grin Casino. One hopes that 505 and Starbreeze Studios will keep Giancarlo Esposito around for more of these little videos.
Payday 2 is available on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The Big Heist hits Steam on June 17 for $6.99. Watch The Dentist short film below and lament the passing of Breaking Bad in the comments.
