Basic D&D Will Be Free, Downloadable Version of Game Rules
Deadline is reporting that Hulu producers have been in talks with the folks behind Community and while no deal has been made official, both sides are open to the idea. Dan Harmon, the mastermind behind the show, as up and down a personality as you can get, is also on board, stating "I'm not going to be the guy that re-cancels the cancelled Community."
Despite its problems, the internet is a great place for breathing new life into shows that otherwise got a short shrift on television because they didn't cater to the dumbest, most watered down version of the geek, or are a combination cooking-dancing-singing show (which admittedly, I would totally watch). The beloved Arrested Development found a new home on Netflix last year, even if nerds weren't appreciative of the sheer brilliance that went into it. Unfettered by the severe competition and singular, driving need for ratings, a show with Community's small but absolutely cult-like following could thrive quite successfully on a site like Hulu, which also hosts the show's back catalog, allowing new viewers to catch up to speed with the goings on at Greendale.
Community was officially cancelled by NBC last month, after the fifth season, which brought back creator Dan Harmon, revitalized the show completely. Though it lost regulars Chevy Chase and Donald Glover, Harmon and the cast created something that simply should not have been and made it one of the strongest seasons of Community by far. The show wrapped itself up quite nicely as a series capper, but this is Greendale, there is always more wackiness to be found there.
If Hulu does strike a deal with Sony and green light the show, it will be one of the biggest moves the streaming service has made. The company has vowed to invest more in original content and though not truly original, a sixth season of Community could go a long way into showcasing the ability of Hulu to create must see tv.
