LG revealed its new G3 smartphone live at an event earlier today, and the powerful device looks poised to go toe to toe with Samsung's flagship Galaxy S5 in terms of features and power.

The G3 boasts a very high definition 5.5in display, making it quite a large device, and will come with features such as laser-focused photography. LG says the phone will launch in South Korea tomorrow, May 28, with a worldwide launch to follow.
There is currently no price listed for the standalone device in any region, though it will presumably cost $200 if bought alongside a new carrier contract like most smartphones. You can watch a replay of the live event and reveal below.

The Galaxy S5 is already considered a large phone at 5.1in, so the size of the G3 may make users uncomfortable. However, LG's new screen boasts a hugely impressive 2,560x1,440 resolution, for a pixel density that beats out the S5's 1,920x1,080 display by over 100 pixels-per-inch. Pixel density isn't the definitive factor in display quality and most probably won't notice a difference, but the staggering resolution on the G3 is certainly worth noting.
The "Laser Auto Focus" feature is a first for smartphones according to LG, and will direct a beam at the object you're photographing to improve picture quality. I can't personally attest to any improved quality as I haven't gone hands-on with the device, but the technology sounds like it should give the respectable 13-megapixel camera an advantage.
The G3 also carries a new, longer-lasting battery to power the demanding display and 2.5Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor. The G2 was regarded as a quick device, and the upgraded guts of the G3 should equal a speedy, responsive phone--LG does want to go head to head with the S5, after all. The battery is removable and, unlike its predecessor, the G3 includes a microSD slot for expandable storage.
The G3 will run the latest version of Android, KitKat 4.4.2, and are attempting to make it stand out with the usual manufacturer additions, in this case a smarter keyboard and suggestion features. Stay tuned for reviews and more details from LG, including the impending announcement of a worldwide release date.
