Storied developer and publisher Team17 is bringing its beloved and long running franchise Worms to the Xbox One and Playstation 4 on May 30th for UK gamers via digital and select in-store physical copies. US Playstation users will be getting the game via digital download a few days later on June 3rd. At long last, next generation gamers can finally engage in some next generation annelid warfare.
Worms Developers Announce New Game Flockers
Worms Battleground, the latest entry in the series, will have a whole host of features that should excite old players and new converts. The game will run at 1080p at 60fps for all systems. 25 new single player levels, online and local multiplayer games of up to four players, oodles and oodles of item customizations for the Worms themselves, and several new weapons with such ominous names as The Equalizer, Whoopsie Cushion, Gravedigger, Winged Monkey and the eerie, yet oddly hilarious, Bovine Blitz. Players will also be able to customize and create their very own Worms maps, extending the lifespan of the game nearly indefinitely.
PS4 users will also have access to a companion website to keep track of their stats when not logged in. Meanwhile, Xbox One players will eventually have the option to track their progress via Microsoft's SmartGlass companion app.
Angry Birds Epic: A Turn-Based Game of Epic Proportions
Worms Battlegrounds is also one of the first games released by the ID@XBox, Microsoft's program that allows independent game designers to create and publish their own games onto Xbox Live. Team17 is an ambassador for the program and, after 25 years of doing this, very good at their job.
So hang in a little while longer, Worms fans. The war begins soon.
