A fan on Twitter stated that he thinks the game looks great and wished it was coming to PS4, asking Insomniac how much Microsoft paid them for the exclusive.
"Wasn't about money," the developer's official account replied, "[It] was about our controlling and owning the IP, and their belief and desire to execute our vision with us."

Insomniac have spoken at length about Sunset Overdrive representing what it is as a studio, even saying it's the game the team has wanted to make for 20 years. The property, identity, and vision of this project are important to them, and they believe Microsoft offered them the best chance to achieve success and carry out their plan.
Money may very well have been involved as well (and you would hardly expect a developer to say publicly that they were also paid a large sum), but the studio is stating that the freedom to make this project come to life was the driving force. You have to wonder if Sony was ever involved in negotiations and Insomniac chose Microsoft, especially given the history between the studio and PlayStation brand.
Sunset Overdrive is an open-world third person shooter that relies on a zany, colorful aesthetic and fast-paced movement system, which you can see in the gameplay footage below.
