Fans of developer FromSoftware are celebrating as 2015's "Bloodborne" is now playable on PC via PlayStation 4 emulation.
The development is thanks primarily to Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan who showcased a smoother 60 fps gameplay of the world of Yharnam on PC. This was made possible due to the progress made on the shadps4 emulator.
Bloodborne on PC
The emulator's 0.5.1. version has improved performance on "Bloodborne" where the FromSoftware-made soulslike is "almost entirely playable." Additionally, it seems like it is nearly free of crashes from beginning to end.
The playable PC version of "Bloodborne" comes a decade after the soulslike game was originally released as an exclusive to the PlayStation 4. Since then, the game has built up a massive community of dedicated fans who grew frustrated with the lack of a PC version.
This was primarily due to Sony's inability or unwillingness to port the game over to PC. This also came despite original promises of the PlayStation 4 Pro version of "Bloodborne" offering performance improvements, which did not manifest, according to Polygon.
This was also the case with the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Pro as Sony has missed every opportunity to give fans what they want. This is what has led to the growing frustration surrounding "Bloodborne."

Even former Sony executive Shuhei Yoshida talked about the issue recently, saying that "Bloodborne" has always been the most asked thing. He added that people were wondering why the studio had not done anything for the game itself, such as an update or a remaster.
PlayStation 4 Emulation
The situation with the progress of the shadps4 emulator comes as positive news for fans of the FromSoftware game. One mod in particular stands out: "Bloodborne PC Remaster Project," which received a major update recently, VG247 said.
Morgan concluded his post by saying that there are still imperfections with the "Bloodborne" emulation on PC today. He added that there were still some outstanding crashes that he experienced during his tests.
However, the state of the game right now is very encouraging to fans and at least demonstrates the direction that fans would want with an official remaster for "Bloodborne."
An interview with the lead developer of shadps4 in July 2024 came during a time when "Bloodborne" wasn't even bootable past the character creation screen. Developer George Moralis said that they did not want users to have great expectations moving forward.
This was as each new YouTube video has made it harder and harder to rein in those expectations throughout the community. This was primarily due to how far the emulator has progressed since it was first created, according to PCGamer.
