Electronic Arts released a new update for "The Sims 3" more than a decade after the game first launched as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations for the franchise.

The studio has a lot of stuff planned for this year, including a variety of activities, free updates, and tons of new content for several games in the "The Sims" series. Despite this, the latest update to "The Sims 3" came as a surprise to many fans.

The Sims 3 Update

The patch simply fixes an issue that made newer Intel CPUs unable to run the game at all. It allows "The Sims 3" to be run on modern hardware much more easily compared to before. While Electronic Arts has not yet issued an official statement regarding the update, some fans are hoping it could mean more patches to the game moving forward.

Even if the studio does not plan to introduce any more updates to "The Sims 3," many players, including modders, are happy that the game got a bit of a gift in the form of the patch. One user posted on X, saying, "So it begins," after they noticed the surprise update, according to Game Spot.

What makes the latest update even more noteworthy is that the prior patch to this one was introduced to "The Sims 3" in November 2015. Many fans believe that the latest update was released to make sure that more people buy the game.

Fixing a Long-Standing Issue

However, if you missed the detailed customization options of "The Sims 3," you will most likely be happy to see the new update to the game. This is even if it does not actually mean that there will be more content for the game in the future.

While the latest update for "The Sims 3" fixed the issue of 12th generation Intel processors from playing the game, one modder fixed the issue with her own modded patch in 2022. The official patch was made to the Electronic Arts App launcher but not yet Steam, Polygon said.

Some players in "The Sims 3" community are hesitant about getting the new patch as they spent years getting mods and scripted content. The majority of these individuals are scared that getting the patch will mess everything up.

Despite the surprise patch, many fans of the series are disappointed that "The Sims 3" is not getting the same love from Electronic Arts as "The Sims 4." The latter was revealed to be getting two major updates this year as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, according to Game Rant.
