Game director Sebastian Kalemba revealed that "The Witcher IV" will add brand new regions as well as new monsters, including one that will play with players' fears.

The latest entry in the franchise is said to take place in a new, unnamed Continent, where grass can be seen spilling over everything. On top of this, there will also be new enemies that will test your abilities to use Ciri's abilities as a Witcher to their fullest extent.

New Monster in The Witcher IV

One of these is the Bauk, whom Kalemba called a "real bastard," who has tricky mechanics that he believes will be a challenge for players. This particular foe can be found nestled in one of the "amazing," "completely new regions" that the game director hinted at.

The Bauk was apparently inspired by Serbian mythology, which describes the nightmare beasts as shadowy creatures that live in darkness and want to feast on their flesh. The monster was first revealed in the cinematic trailer for "The Witcher IV" at The Game Awards 2024, according to Games Radar.

The creature was shown with a gross mess that mixed bone and hair as they attacked Ciri inside the misty woods using its thin arms. The beast talks in the trailer, saying, "Fate cannot be changed."

Kalemba said that the game's version of the Bauk will play with players' fears, noting that he loves this particular aspect of the new enemy. The game director said that CD Projekt Rekt did something from a completely different perspective since the first game in the series.

Brand New Regions

Producer Gosia Mitrega also hinted that fans could see the "village in the trailer" make an appearance within the game itself. This particular area was described as the "far north" of The Continent, Tech Radar said.

On top of this, it was said that "The Witcher IV" will have a map size that is "more or less" the same as the one in "The Witcher III: The Wild Hunt." Kalemba noted that this was also the same when it came to the number of quests.

The revelation that "The Witcher IV" will have new regions could mean that fans could see more areas that were never shown in any mainline entry in the series. Some examples of these are Cintra, Rivia, and Mahakam.

While "Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales" explored some of these areas to some extent, being able to fully travel to them in "The Witcher IV" is highly anticipated by fans of the franchise, according to The Gamer.
