A new leak for "Grand Theft Auto (GTA) VI" apparently showed an image of gameplay for the latest entry in the franchise that was taken from one of Rockstar Games' offices.

The latest reveal quickly went viral online after it was initially shared due to how it was apparently taken. The photo, which has since been deleted, supposedly showed "GTA VI" being played on a PlayStation 5 development kit.

GTA VI Leak

It was first shared on the r/GTA6 subreddit on Jan. 1 by a user who claimed that they got the image from an individual who "worked at the Rockstar office for a few months" in mid-2021. The photo did not show anything relevant other than the protagonist, Lucia, in a vaguely urban environment.

There were also two short videos that were shared that somehow showed even fewer details than the photo. However, the backstory of how the image was acquired had some proof, as the windows and trees seen in the area were reminiscent of the ones seen in the Rockstar Games building in San Diego, California, according to Polygon.

The original leaker from Reddit said that the person they got the image from has since separated from Rockstar Games and does not work there or in any related field anymore. The statement was made when they re-uploaded the image and video to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours.

Supposed In-Game Footage

He also said that they were not worried and added that they would most likely delete the image and videos soon. They argued that they do not necessarily need the likes on the platform but only shared it out of obligation to show fans.

Since the image was shared online, many fans of the "GTA" franchise have debated regarding its legitimacy. One claim for the leak being real was the presence of a dev kit, which cannot be purchased by anyone and needs to be requested by developers, Screen Rant.

However, people on the other side of the spectrum argued that there was a DualShock 4, which is a PlayStation 4 controller, that was connected to the PlayStation 5 dev kit. This is something that user @StrikedVI said made the leak feel less legitimate.

The situation comes as "GTA VI" is arguably the most anticipated game of 2025, and for good reason. Additionally, the complete lack of updates from Rockstar Games itself has had fans picking up scraps of any information, legitimate or not, to sate their thirst, according to Game Rant.
