The director of Game Science's "Black Myth: Wukong," Feng Ji, confirmed that the game's Xbox version is delayed due to issues with the Series S' memory optimization.
The reveal comes four months after the soulslike game was released on both PC and PlayStation consoles. Many Xbox fans are used to getting left out of a lot of popular titles, including many from the past year, such as "Stellar Blade," "Final Fantasy VII Rebirth," and "Rise of the Ronin."
Black Myth: Wukong Director Talks Xbox Delay
However, a lot of players were very disappointed that "Black Myth: Wukong" had joined the growing list. While fans know that the game is planned to have an Xbox version sometime in the future, it has been indefinitely delayed.
A lot of players have simply assumed, with the lack of an official reason, that this was because of the weaker Xbox Series S model. This was something that Game Science had never really confirmed until now, according to The Gamer.

Feng, who also goes by Yocar, posted on the Chinese social media platform Weibo to blame the Xbox Series S for the delay. His post was made in response to the game's impressive performance during the latest Steam Awards.
The latter has once again become rather controversial because "Black Myth: Wukong" was given three awards in total, including Game of the Year. Yocar apparently explained that he felt a little bit emotional after seeing the results of the latest awards, adding that the only thing that would make it better is the release of the game's Xbox version.
Xbox Series S' Memory Optimization Issues
The situation comes as Xbox head Phil Spencer teased the game's Xbox version in November 2024, noting that he was not allowed to really talk about details. Yocar noted that the Series S' 10GB shared memory limit was something that was hard for them to deal with, MP1st said.
He added that not having enough experience in this field made it extremely difficult for them to optimize "Black Myth: Wukong" for Xbox consoles. Despite this confirmation, there is no official release date for the game's release on Microsoft's gaming console.
The game has been one of the most anticipated action RPGs in the last few years and has captured the hearts of many gamers. It features stunning visuals and fluid gameplay that rival other soulslike games, such as FromSoftware's "Elden Ring."
"Black Myth: Wukong" takes players on a journey through Chinese mythology, and it has even earned a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, according to The Game Post.
