Developer Treyarch revealed some of the things that fans can expect in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" when the massive Jan. 3, 2025, update arrives.
The studio is kicking off the year with an update that features some of the many community-requested changes to "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6." While the game was previously called the biggest entry in the franchise, its player count has recently dropped.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Jan. 3 Update
"Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" had a peak of 315,000 concurrent players on Steam when it launched last year, but in late December 2024, it had only around 100,000. The game has many other multiplayer titles to compete with, including NetEase Games' "Marvel Rivals."
Many players have since moved on from the shooter and started to play other games for content creation. On top of this, "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" has been mired with various performance and cheating issues that players have been complaining about, according to Dexerto.

Treyarch is trying to attract players back into the game with the massive Jan. 3, 2025, update, which will add new modes for Multiplayer and Zombies. There will be the High Roller Wildcard for the former and the Elemental Sword buffs for the latter.
The studio is also bringing some improvements to the Prop Hunt game mode and will introduce bug fixes to the Citadelle des Morts Zombies map. On top of these, players can expect updates to the Zombies Calling Card Challenges along with improvements to After-Action reports.
A Ton of New Stuff
While the developer did not detail the update further, fans can expect a slew of new modes to be added to the game soon. Some fans are hoping that the studio will add the Gun Game mode, which has been seen in many entries in the past, Game Rant said.
However, it is also entirely possible that Treyarch will be adding completely new game modes to "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" to try and spice things up for fans of the franchise. Some also believe that the developer is just referring to changes to the game's playlist.
While waiting for the imminent release of the massive update, players can still enjoy the ongoing Double XP and Double Weapon XP events in the game. These will continue to run in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" until the Jan. 3, 2025, update arrives, according to Game Reactor.
This could be exactly what the game needs as it continues to lose players to its various competitors. Many fans are looking forward to Gun Game, in particular, so only time can tell if people are right with their predictions.
