There are a ton of different bosses and enemies that players can encounter in the world of "Valheim" that will challenge their abilities and skills.

One of the bosses that you will face off against in the game is The Elder, which poses a unique threat to your survival. Beating this boss during your progress through the main story also lets you unlock its Forsaken Ability.

This guide helps players learn the basics of the battle with The Elder and know how to prepare to live through the fight reliably.

How To Summon The Elder

Before you can actually fight the second boss in "Valheim," you first need to learn how to summon The Elder. You can do this in the Black Forest biome, but you will need to find a ceremonial site and then offer a sacrifice.

The Burial Chambers in the area house runestones that register the location of The Elder Boss on your map. If you find one, you can press "E" and then check your map to see where the boss is located, according to IGN.

After this, you need to travel to the site of The Elder Boss by looking for the icon on your map. When you arrive, you will see four large columns and a fire burning in the center. You can find a runestone on one side that tells you how to summon the boss. The message reads, "BURN THEIR YOUNG."

Looking around, you will see some odd-shaped items on top of the four columns that reference what items you need: Ancient Seeds. These can be acquired by destroying the Greydwarf nests that are scattered throughout the Black Forest biome. You need three to summon The Elder Boss.

You must then burn the Ancient Seeds at the ceremonial site altar, which will immediately cause the boss to spawn in that location.

Preparing To Fight The Elder

Before actually summoning the boss, make sure that you have everything prepared, including your armor and weapons. It is recommended to have bronze-tier equipment. It is also useful to fight the boss using a fine wooden bow, Polygon said.

You can bring regular arrows, but Fire Arrows are recommended to deal even more damage to The Elder. The boss has a lot of health, so bring a lot of Fire Arrows if this is your preferred combat method.

When it comes to armor, you have a lot of options in "Valheim," such as the Troll Hide Armor that does not incur any movement speed penalties. This is particularly useful as you will most likely be moving around during the fight.

But if you plan to minimize your actions, you can wear a set of Bronze Armor, upgraded is better, to tank more damage. If you are bringing food, you should try to have two cooked meats and one berry or vegetable-based food.

Other Tips

When you choose to start fighting The Elder, it is recommended to summon it during the day to avoid having to fight Dreydwarves that spawn at night. You should also avoid facing off against the boss when it is raining, as your stamina will refill much more slowly.

It is recommended to create a "Valheim" spawn point bed or build a portal to your spawn point close to the boss' area. You can also use a Shield to block The Elder's stomp if they time it just right.

If you see a lot of roots spawning around you or need some time to refill your stamina, you can hide behind one of the four columns. These structures cannot be destroyed even by the boss' powerful attacks, according to Game Rant.
