Arrowhead Game Studios announced that it would be giving away free cosmetics to players following the backlash over the "Killzone 2" collaboration items that were deemed too expensive.

The "Killzone 2" crossover skins were priced at $20 each, which immediately sparked an outcry from players. The developer is now trying to quell the chaos by providing fans with some holiday freebies to make them feel better.

Free Helldivers 2 Items

The price of the Helghast-inspired "Killzone" cosmetics in "Helldivers 2" was worth more than anything else that players can buy in-game. The developer also has not confirmed whether or not future collaborations will have lower prices than this.

However, Arrowhead Game Studios decided to give away the second set of cosmetics in the crossover at no cost. The studio said in the same announcement post that it was listening to the response and feedback of players regarding its first crossover offering.

The items that are being given away will come in two waves, with the latter half being released at a later date. Furthermore, Arrowhead Game Studios is also extending the duration of the current items in the Superstore from five days to 10 days, according to Kotaku.

The main issue that players have about the current situation is that "Helldivers 2," which is a game that costs $40, is charging free-to-play prices for new skins. This comes as the game has an expanding post-launch monetization strategy.

Backlash Over Crossover Items Pricing

Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Shams Jorjani previously argued that premium sets such as the "Killzone 2" collaboration help the company afford to keep releasing major updates. These include the latest introduction of the Illuminate enemy faction, which is accessible for free.

The developer also noted that it was working to bring the "Killzone" items back to "Helldivers 2" and make them stay permanently. Additionally, the studio said that the new W.A.S.P. stratagem will be available to all players for unlock via a major order soon, Tech Radar said.

The second set of cosmetics that will be given away for free to "Helldivers 2" players includes an armor set, a rifle, an SMG, a banner, and a cape. The originally announced collaboration items also added themed items to the game, which marked its first crossover effort.

"Helldivers 2" players typically unlock extra content through a Warbond that costs roughly 1,000 Super Credits. This would include a variety of armor, weapons, and cosmetic items. However, the "Killzone 2" collaboration items were available separately, and priced at a total of 1,975 Super Credits for only six items, according to Eurogamer.
