Bandai Namco and FromSoftware just announced a new project, Elden Ring Nightreign, which is a standalone, co-operative spin-off of the highly popular soulslike Elden Ring.

The title is set for a 2025 release window and could also include Dark Souls 3's Nameless King enemy. Previous entries in the soulslike genre have featured co-op systems in the form of invasions and summons.

These usually require players to use specific items in individual zones and have time limits to prevent people from grouping up indefinitely. Another nuance in previous games was that you have a unique status effect after using Ember or Humanity.

But it seems like Elden Ring Nightreign is taking a much more traditional approach to the cooperative system when it launches on consoles and PC. The game will let you partner with two other people and dive into a map where you will encounter randomized enemies and areas.

This suggests that it will be a completely different experience to the mainline FromSoftware games that fans are used to. There was not much detail given about Elden Ring Nightreign other than its release window and basic information about its cooperative system, according to The Gamer.

What we do know right now is that Sites of Grace is still going to be a part of the standalone spin-off game. There is also a new glider, which is a magical bird that players can summon and goes perfectly well with horizontal wind vortices.

The upcoming game's map is said to be a miniature version of Limgrave and will bring many classic and reimagined FromSoftware bosses for players to challenge. It is still unclear how Sites of Grace will work in a cooperative multiplayer setting.

A Co-operative Elden Ring Experience

The reveal of Elden Ring Nightreign comes from the fact that FromSoftware previously said that it was not considering making a sequel to the main Elden Ring game. The spin-off also has a trailer shared at The Game Awards 2024, Sports Illustrated said.

Interest in a more co-operative feature for Elden Ring was seen when the game received its Colosseum update, which was entirely focused on having players fight other players. The new game suggests that the Elden Ring brand will continue to thrive for a bit longer.

The three-minute reveal trailer for Elden Ring Nightreign showcased a bit of the game's magical combat, massive weapons, and challenging bosses. The footage showed a variety of different weapons that players can use to take on the plethora of enemies the game has to offer, including daggers, staves, and bows, according to Digital Trends.
