This year's competition is considered one of the more competitive runs as there have already been a record number of votes being cast. There have already been more than 10 million votes since the other categories were opened last month, according to Yahoo.
When the voting finally closes, fans will have to wait for a few weeks before they find out who the winners actually are. The Golden Joystick Awards itself will be held in London on Nov. 21, 2024.
Viewers will be able to watch it live from the comfort of their own homes via YouTube, Twitch, Steam, Facebook, and X. The host for the event will be Ben Starr, who is well-known for his role as Clive Rostfield in Square Enix's Final Fantasy XVI.
Popular Games in 2024
He will be joined by several other guests at the awards, including Hollywood actors and video game developers who made many of the community's favorite titles.
Particularly noteworthy about the list of nominees this year is the inclusion of both Animal Well and Balatro, which are indie titles that were well-received by the community. The latter has previously won Game of the Year at TechRadar's 2024 Choice Awards, Forbes said.
Content director of Games, Video, and Digital Events Daniel Dawkins said that the Ultimate Game of the Year is their most prestigious award. He noted that it sits in its own voting window to give the judging panel more time to assess the big winter releases.
On the other hand, the nominees for the Best Game Adaptation are Borderlands, Fallout, Halo Season 2, Knuckles, Like a Dragon: Yakuza, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, according to WCCFTech.
