'Five Nights at Freddy's' Sequel is Scarier Than Previous Film, Says Josh Hutcherson

Josh Hutcherson, who starred in 2023's Five Nights at Freddy's live action film adaptation, has said that the upcoming sequel will be "scarier." The actor likewise answered if a third movie may be in the horizon for the series. 

The sequel, Five Nights at Freddy's 2, was confirmed in April 2024.

In an interview with Esquire, Hutcherson that the Five Nights at Freddy's universe is expanding.

"We're finding the balance right now of building this world and expanding it in a really cool way but also making sure the characters stay really grounded," he said.

"That's something that I really think that we all fought for in the first film, because this world that was created in Five Nights at Freddy's, it's so out-there," the actor, who will reprise his role as Mike, added.

When asked about the possibility of a third movie, Hutcherson said that while "this could have a very potentially long run," he stressed that the focus at the moment is solely on the second film.

'Five Night's at Freddy's'

The 2023 is the live action movie adaptation of the video game series of the same name. As with the video game series, the movie is set in a pizzeria. Hutcherson's character, Mike, is a security guard, who quickly discovers that the pizzeria's animatronic mascots are actually possessed by the souls of murdered children.

Aside from Hutcherson, other cast members include Piper Rubio, Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, and Mary Stuart Masterson. The movie's sequel is scheduled to be released on December 5, 2025.
