'The Last of Us' Season 2 Trailer Previews Strained Relations Between Joel, Ellie

Those who found the events that unfolded in The Last of Us Part II heartbreaking may both be dreading and anticipating the arrival of the live-action adaptation's second season. While we all have to wait until 2025 for the second season to arrive, HBO has released a trailer as a sneak peek.

Here's what you should know about the trailer and the upcoming second season of the HBO series.

Those who have played The Last of Us Part II will recognize many scenes in the trailer, including one that features Ellie and the guitar Joel gifts her. It likewise shows the strained relationship between both characters following Joel's decision to not let Ellie die at the hospital.

In addition, the trailer also gives a glimpse of Catherine O'Hara's character. According to a report, there is no official word yet on what character she is playing, but it is being assumed that her role is that of a grief counselor or therapist.

Aside from O'Hara's character, viewers will also see Young Mazino, who plays Jesse, and Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Abby.

What to Know About Season 2

As previously mentioned, the second season of The Last of Us is based on the events that took place in The Last of Us Part II. While it has been confirmed that it is scheduled for a 2025 release, a specific date has not been provided as of writing. 

Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey return as Joel and Ellie, respectively. Other cast members include Gabriel Luna, who portrays Tommy, and Rutina Wesley, who portrays Tommy's wife, Maria.
