Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a 2D side-scrolling platformer adventure that takes the franchise back to its roots.
Going back to its core doesn't mean Super Mario Bros. Wonder doesn't have anything new for players to enjoy. It features a lot of new mechanics that still feel familiar to fans of the franchise.
This beginner's tips and tricks guide helps you know what is the same and what is new. These are some things to keep in mind to help you get started in the game.
Focus on Badges
Almost all characters in Super Mario Bros. Wonder play identically when it comes to gameplay. This means that it doesn't really matter who you choose as long as you enjoy the game itself.
Fortunately, the game still features some level of character customization that makes some characters unique. Nintendo avoided making it so that you are forced to use a character if they have a certain ability or skill that you like, according to TheGamer.
The game instead gives you access to obtainable and equippable badges that will alter gameplay in a variety of ways. These range from boosting some techniques to giving brand-new abilities and many more.
Buy "!" Blocks When You See Them
There are various Poplin Shops in the game and some sell "!" Blocks that you should purchase as soon as you can. These blocks are useful because they will fill in empty block outlines located in different stages.
This lets players get to areas where they previously could not find various rewards, such as Wonder Seeds and Flower Coins. You can even find separate exits in some of these hidden areas.

You Can Skip Some Levels
Unlike the original Super Mario games, Super Mario Bros. Wonder doesn't tie players down with having to finish all of the levels. You have a lot more freedom in how you progress through the game, said GameRanx.
All of the levels in the game are graded with a "Star" system and more stars means it is more difficult. There are a lot of high-ranking levels even in World 1 but you can skip these until you're ready for them.
Explore All Levels
While you aren't required to complete every level, exploring all the ones that you can will be rewarding. This could be in the form of treasure stages or even shortcuts that you wouldn't guess would be there.
Spend Purple Coins
Players can hold a maximum of 999 Purple Coins at any given time and you waste anything you get past this point. You should buy what you can with this currency, such as Badges, Wonder Seeds, Standees, and Power-Ups.
This means that you get more potential boosts while also keeping yourself free enough to gather more Purple Coins in the future, according to NintendoLife.
