One of Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's title updates marked the return of the great ape, Rajang, to the franchise.
This raging monster is one of the series' most beloved, but at the same time hated, creatures. Its design along with its equipment is one of the best in the game and they look very cool. However, the fight itself is probably one of the most challenging the franchise has to offer.
This guide will help players understand what Rajang is weak to and what his attacks can do. Keeping these tips and tricks in mind will let you reliably slay this great ape to craft his powerful gear.
Rajang's Weakness
The great ape is weak to Ice attacks and is immune to Dragon, Fire, and Thunder while resisting Water. This means that you have very limited options in what elements you can use to deal good damage to Rajang, according to Fanbyte.
The monster is also highly resistant to status ailments such as Poison which means that using weapons with these effects is not recommended. The best way to deal with Rajang is to use a high Raw weapon or one that has a Blast element.
Rajang's Attacks
Now that you have your weapon of choice, you need to prepare for Rajang's devastating attacks. One thing that you should take note of is that this monster can inflict Thunderblight with some of his moves.
This status will make your hunter more susceptible to being stunned after being hit in quick succession, which could spell death. One way to handle this is using a Blight Charm that provides Blight Resistance. A high-level Thunder Charm will also provide this benefit if you have one, said ShackNews.
There is also the Thunderproof Mantle specialized tool that you can use during battle to become immune to Thunderblight. However, this one has a duration and it may not be usable during key moments of the fight with Rajang.

General Strategies
Given how fast Rajang moves and how powerful his attacks are, being cautious is the best way of slaying it without carting yourself until quest failure. Focusing on the head and tail is recommended as these are the monster's weak parts.
After taking enough damage, Rajang will enter its Rage Mode, which is characterized by the monster going Super Saiyan as its fur turns yellow. In this mode, the monster is much faster, more aggressive, and more powerful.
The monster also has a secondary enraged form. Aiming for the tail is a good way to reduce the time that Rajang is in this mode. During this time, you should avoid hitting its arms as they become much harder and your weapons would most likely bounce off.
Other Tips
The primary tip that hunters should know before fighting Rajang is to not be greedy when attacking him. Due to how fast he is, a mistimed attack can lead to a counterattack that can potentially one-shot you.
Wait for an opportunity to strike, such as when the monster is fatigued or when it is knocked down or stunned. This might cause your hunts to get a bit longer but finishing the quest is still better than failure, according to RPGSite.
