'Super Mario Party Jamboree' Preview Showcases Diverse Multiplayer Options

A preview of Super Mario Party Jamboree showcased the game's diverse multiplayer options as well as making players realize just how big of a game it actually is.

Nintendo's latest entry into the Mario Party series will more likely than not work on dividing families and friends instead of uniting them. It is the third Mario Party game to launch on the Nintendo Switch.

It is also the first one to mix both traditional and motion controls to give players more options on how to play. Nintendo said during a preview event last month that there will be more boards, minigames, characters, modes, and other features.

One of these is that new Star Steal Trap item that lets a player choose a space on the board and turn it into a landmine. This would steal a Star from any player unfortunate enough to actually step onto it, according to GameSpot.

The main thing that Super Mario Party Jamboree offers is the Mario Party mode. Nintendo's long-established board-game traversal mixed with minigames remains generally unchanged from the original game.

But this time, there are seven boards that players can choose from, two of which are returning favorites; Mario's Rainbow Castle from Mario Party and Western Land from Mario Party 2. One of the demos featured Mario Party mode on Mega Wiggler's Tree Party.

Super Mario Party Jamboree includes 22 playable characters that we know of so far. This makes it the game that has the largest roster in the series so far. These include classics such as Donkey Kong, Toad, and Toadette, said IGN.

An Amazing Multiplayer Experience

There are also several newcomers to the franchise, such as Pauline and Ninji who are more than welcome on the roster. In one of the boards, Mega Wiggler's Tree Party, there is a giant Wiggler in the center that rotates positions if a player lands on a specific space.

This would then unlock alternate paths and faster routes that players can take to head to the Star. This particular mechanic has helped Nintendo blend a perfect mix of luck and strategy for players to experiment with.

Another feature of Super Mario Party Jamboree is Koopathlon which supports up to 20 players in an online setting. This is the highest number of players ever supported in Mario Party online play. You can also play against bots if you don't have enough people to play with, according to Polygon.
