Bungie is teasing the next chapter of Destiny 2 and talked a little bit about upcoming new content, codenamed "Frontiers."

The studio set a schedule for Destiny 2's 10th anniversary where it will publish a "shot Dev Insight blog article." It will be led by new game director Tyson Green and narrative director Alison Luhrs.

Destiny 2's Future

They will talk about Destiny 2: Frontiers, which is the teased new content that will start following the current three episodes this year. The duo will discuss where they have been, where they are now, and where they want to go moving forward.

Green and Luhrs said that they want to be as clear with their commitment to ongoing communication with players. The latest news marks the start of regular updates from the development team on what's coming next to Destiny 2, according to Forbes.

The update would feature details about the systems and future plans for Destiny 2. They noted that while the news might be a bit rough around the edges, they are still in the early development process.

The studio seems to be emphasizing that the upcoming news release will be short and that they will show more "bite-sized" chunks in the near future. However, it still comes as good news for players who have been unsure of Destiny 2's future following The Final Shape.

Despite the highly successful expansion of Bungie's shooter, it was followed by severe layoffs at the studio itself. Many Destiny veterans were among those who were either cut or were forced to leave, said GamesRadar.

This comes along with the end of the game's Light and Darkness saga that has guided it so far. It also comes as Destiny 2 has had a decline in the number of players it has following its transition to a new Episode model.

Low Player Count

There are also rumors that Destiny 2 has received a dramatic shift in business model, with major expansions getting trashed. This comes as Sony is reportedly poised to dive deeper into Bungie's operations.

The game hit its lowest player count in its history on Steam with an average of 32,497 in the last days as of Sept. 6, 2024. This is a significant drop from Destiny 2's 123,023 average month players that was seen in June 2024.

The conclusion of The Final Shape expansion is seen as the major factor in the decline of players for Destiny 2. This left many players feeling like they had already reached the end of the road within the game, according to TheGamePost.
