Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcom's latest entry in its popular monster hunting franchise and a recent preview showed fans what they can expect when the game releases in 2025.

The hands-on preview for the upcoming game is playable at Gamescom 2024 from Aug. 21, 2024, to Aug. 25, 2024. This comes ahead of Monster Hunter Wilds' scheduled release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2025, according to Gematsu.

Monster Hunter Wilds Preview

The preview allowed players to dive head-first into Monster Hunter Wilds and experience everything old and new that Capcom has brought to the latest entry in the franchise. One of the features that makes a comeback in the new game is rideable monster mounts.

These monster mounts are called Seikret and are a mix of what was seen in Monster Hunter World: Iceborn and Monster Hunter Rise. In Monster Hunter Wilds, Seikret will follow a target but will still allow players to directly control them if they want to.

These rideable monster mounts can traverse across special paths, glide, and even give players time to use or collect items. This feature makes travel much more engaging in Monster Hunter Wilds compared to its predecessors.

On top of letting you travel faster and collect items on the fly, Seikret are also useful battle companions as they can carry a second weapon loadout for you in the middle of a hunt.

This is something that can be considered a massive quality-of-life update for many players who enjoy using different weapon types or even different weapons of the same type.

Brand New Features

Another thing about this that is worth noting is that you can use ranged weapons, such as Bows, Light Bowguns, and Heavy Bowguns, while mounted. This means that you can attack a monster as you see it and switch to a melee weapon when it is finally time to confront the beast directly, said IGN.

One more thing that Capcom did to change Monster Hunter Wilds compared to other games in the series is that it is now doing away with male and female armor restrictions. What this means is that no matter the gender of your base character, you can wear either male or female-oriented equipment.

This is entirely a cosmetic thing but the internet has had a consensus that it is a good thing for the series. This particular feature was shown off during the developer diary streams and lets players mix and match both armor variants together, according to VG247.
