Dying Light: The Beast has just been announced and will bring back protagonist Kyle Crane and pit him inside a new open-world region.
The latest reveal, made by developer Techland, was made during Gamescom 2024's Opening Night Live. The upcoming game will reportedly have 20 hours of gameplay and will be a standalone game that is set in the post-apocalyptic Castor Woods.
Dying Light: The Beast
Players will take control of Crane, who is voiced by Roger Craig Smith, as he tries to escape after being held captive and experimented on for 13 years. His suffering follows his previous appearances in the franchise.
Now that he is free, Crane is seeking revenge on those who held them captive, and the titular "Beast" is a massive monster that roams the woods. But due to the experiments done on the protagonist, he now has zombie DNA that gives him "beast-like" powers, according to IGN.
Dying Light: The Beast will also feature a four-player co-op mode where players will share their progression but it can be played entirely solo. Furthermore, people who own Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition will get Dying Light: The Beast for free.

While the latest game originally started as a story DLC for Dying Light 2, it "evolved into a standalone, self-contained experience" after two years of work. So far, Techland has not yet revealed the pricing of Dying Light: The Beast for those who do not own Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition.
Even when fans of the franchise got their first look at Dying Light: The Beast, there was already a lot of stuff to discuss. One of which is the region that it is set in, Castor Woods, which was a once-bustling tourist destination that has now been overrun by zombies, said PCGamer.
A New Open-World Region
The developer also noted that the upcoming game will feature natural landmarks, small villages, and industrial complexes. It added that the setting offers diverse traversal options for players to take, whether by using their parkour skills or riding an abandoned 4x4 to outrun the night's horrors.
The trailer that was revealed alongside the announcement of Dying Light: The Beast, started with soldiers seemingly on the hunt for something. However, unbeknownst to them, they were actually the ones being hunted by a creature in the woods.
After the group encounters the monster, the shot turns to sunrise over a city as well as the appearance of Crane. With his bloodshot eye, Techland implies that he may have had a connection to whatever killed the soldiers, according to GameRant.
