Borderlands 4 has just gotten a teaser trailer by 2K Games during Opening Night Live for Gamescom 2024 and is set for a 2025 release window.

The latest entry in the Borderlands franchise will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The teaser trailer didn't give fans much to talk about and it was much more mysterious than many people anticipated.

The official description on YouTube also did not offer anything meaningful, reading, "In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet."

Fortunately, one thing that fans of the Borderlands franchise can surmise from the teaser trailer is that the new game will most likely continue the legacy left behind by other titles in the series, according to The Verge.

When it launches, Borderlands 4 will be the fourth mainline entry and 7th overall release for the franchise. Founder and president of the Gearbox Entertainment company, Randy Pitchford, said that they had a lot they wanted to do with the series since they first introduced it to the world.

He said that all of them at Gearbox Entertainment have massive ambitions for the upcoming game and are putting everything they have into making it even better than other entries. Borderlands 4 comes as the franchise has sold more than 87 million copies and has received critical acclaim.

The senior vice president and general manager of 2K Core Games, Catharina Lavers Mallet, said that they are excited to share with fans of the franchise the new game. She noted that 2025 will mark a massive year for both companies, said 2K Newsroom.

The Latest Entry in the Franchise

Mallet also noted that the Borderlands series is one of 2K Games' most successful franchises in history and is loved by millions of players worldwide. She said that they are excited to already have a close partnership and collaboration with the Gearbox Entertainment team.

The teaser for the latest Borderlands game comes as 2K Games parent company Take-Two Interactive revealed plans in March to acquire "Borderlands" maker Gearbox Entertainment from Embracer Group.

That particular deal would have cost the company $460 million and as part of the agreement, which was closed in June this year, Take-Two Interactive got the rights to Gearbox IP.

These include Borderlands, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms, and Duke Nukem, according to Variety.
