The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is Nintendo's sequel to the highly popular adventure role-playing game and includes a ton of new mechanics for players to use, including the new fuse feature.

The fuse ability is one of Link's new abilities in this game and allows players to add various materials to their shields and weapons to make them stronger or more useful. One example material is a rock or boulder. This lets you break through cracked barriers and ore deposits.

There are many types of fuse materials available in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that all have their uses. Some even have elemental properties and some are more useful to fuse with arrows.

Fuse Weapon Bases

One key aspect of mastering the new fuse mechanic is considering the best base weapon that you will use in the process. Since you are free to choose anything, you might be tempted to use everything, according to ScreenRant.

However, there are actually some very good options that are worth grabbing compared to your usual weapons to save on resources in the long run. The types of weapons that you should be on the lookout for are high-damage two-handed weapons, Zoanite weapons, spears, and strong wooden sticks.

Tips for Weapon Fusion

You should remember that the fuse mechanic also applies to shields and there are some materials that can significantly boost your shields' durability. One example is an explosion barrel that, when you start to surf, Link will be launched into the air.

Trying out different combinations to learn about what effects they have on your weapons and shields is a good way of learning what you can use in what kind of situation. You can also read through the comments under certain materials to give you an overview of what effect they could have when used in fusion.

Zonai Device Fusions

Another noteworthy part of this new mechanic is the special Zonai Devices that you uncover as you explore the Sky Islands and the ruins that have fallen to the Surface. Emitters can be fused onto shields to blast elemental properties when your shield is raised or when you swing your weapon, said IGN.

Next, you have to fuse a Rocket to your shield that will let Link blast into the air for a brief duration in order to gain height quickly. Lastly, devices such as Springs, Lights, and Mirrors, can be fused to your shield to provide various effects when readied.

Unfusing Weapons

Now that the basics are out of the way, you may sometimes find yourself in need of regular weapons and shields without the fusion materials. To unfuse weapons, there are two general ways. The first destroys the fusion material while the other returns it to your inventory.

The first way is going into your inventory, pressing the "+" button, scrolling over to weapons, selecting the weapon you want to unfuse, and choosing "Destroy fused material." But if you want to keep the fusion material, you need to go with the second option.

This is by going to Tarrey Town, found in the northeast section of Hyrule, and looking for a small Goron located on the eastern side of the town which is named Pelison. By paying 20 rupees, he will break the weapon apart and return both the base and the fusion material to you, according to Video Games.
