Capcom Stance on Physical vs. Digital Media

In the 45th Ordinary General Meeting of Shareholders, Capcom commented on some of the hottest topics circling about the company, which involved its policy on the sale of physical games. With the ever-increasing success of digital games, Capcom has told shareholders that physical media won't be going anywhere. Specifically, it recognizes that although digital sales are increasing, many consumers still purchase physical copies. On this note, Capcom doesn't plan to phase out physical games.

Other discussed topics included the sales strategy the company would use and how diversity was represented within game development. Capcom's positive response to the question about physical media really drove the point home in reassuring that they are committed to servicing both digital and physical game lovers.

Fan Reactions and Community Support

Capcom has warmed hearts in the gaming community with its commitment to physical releases. Fans are showing appreciation, and some have even requested more physical merchandise as a result. This move by the company is quite contrary to the trend of today, which is that of digital-only content, where gamers mostly go for digital copies just to access the games ahead of time and avoid physical storage hassles.

Even with Capcom's digital sales percentage at 90.1 percent this past year, it's clear the studio made the right call in continuing to offer physical copies; fan response was a cheering one. It would appear that physical media gives more options and better deals for consumers.
