From Development Hell to New Platforms
After years of development troubles, Skull and Bones finally launched earlier this year. Reviews may not have been excellent, but even that isn't going to deter Ubisoft from supporting the game with new content. Season 2 is on its way, alongside a spate of different events and additions, all going live around the time the Steam release drops.
Previously only available on Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store, Skull and Bones is looking to firm up these player numbers with this extra platform. The company had sustained approximately 850,000 players in the first week following the somewhat lukewarm reception of the game. At the moment, Ubisoft is hoping that the Steam launch will suck in more players.
History of Delays and Mixed Reception
Skull and Bones was first announced at E3 2017, and the title has been in development for years. Several delays pushed its eventual release to earlier this year on PC and consoles. The reception wasn't quite as rosy as Ubisoft might have hoped. Critics mentioned grindy progression and a general lack of exciting pirate action. While it did have charm in places according to our reviewer, it did feel overall lackluster.
