Fallout: London Mod Compatible with Fallout 4 on GOG and Steam, Not Epic

GOG confirmed that the massive Fallout 4 mod, Fallout: London, won't be playable on Epic Games Store copies at launch. This announcement was made to VG247 by a GOG spokesperson.

Compatibility and Mod Challenges

Fallout: London is a complete conversion mod for Fallout 4, letting players explore a post-apocalyptic London with new factions and quests. The mod's creators had to delay their original release date due to Fallout 4's next-gen update, which caused compatibility issues.

The mod will require players to downgrade their Fallout 4 copies to a version before the next-gen update. GOG confirmed that their version of the game supports this downgrade due to its "simple and convenient rollback feature." Steam users will also be able to use the mod through a downgrading tool or manual process. However, the Epic Games Store doesn't support update rollbacks, preventing the mod's compatibility on that platform.

Future Plans and Modding Community Needs

Team FOLON and GOG ruled out offering the mod for Epic-distributed copies at launch due to the storefront's limitations. The modding team found that the next-gen version of Fallout 4 was unstable, forcing them to require a rollback for the mod to function. They still plan to release an updated version of the mod compatible with next-gen Fallout 4 in the future, which could work with Epic Store copies.

The GOG spokesperson emphasized the importance of rollback features in PC storefronts, especially for games with active modding communities like Fallout 4. This feature helps players avoid issues with updates and reduces pressure on modders to update their works immediately. Currently, the mod is still being tested by GOG, so the final installation process is not yet finalized.
