Old School Runescape Faces Criticism Over Tormented Demons Loot Table

Old School Runescape is facing criticism from a lot of its players following the release of the While Guthix Sleeps quest over the horrendous loot table for the new Tormented Demons enemies.

The re-release of the grandmaster-tier quest to the classic MMO had many players on the edge of their seats before they fell off after finding out how much gold they could get from the endgame mobs that are featured in it.

The horrible loot table for the tormented demons is being compared to the loot table of the recently released zombie pirates.

The latter was found to be more gold per hour than the former despite the undead creatures being only level 28 with 35 hit points while the demonic enemies are level 450 with 600 hit points.

What makes the situation even more disparate is that zombie pirates can be found en-mass in the Wilderness, but only in the lower level areas. This means that they are easy to kill and are relatively easy to access, according to GamesRadar.

They are such a good money maker that there are already a lot of bots farming these creatures due to the equipment that they drop. But with the introduction of tormented demons, many were hoping that the difficult monsters would be able to give zombie pirates a run for their money, literally.

But despite having unique drops that sell for millions of gold, their rarity and tormented demons' bad loot table, in general, make them less gold per hour than zombie pirates.

Many people have complained about this since the quest that the demons are introduced in, While Guthix Sleeps, has some pretty high prerequisites.

This issue is not entirely a unique problem in the world of Old School Runescape as most of the game's bosses and enemies are popular for being good money makers. Also, players often measure new challenges against these profitable enemies.

Working on Adjustments

However, it is also entirely possible for the developer, Jagex, to make the game have multiple good money-makers that all have their own definition of fun. But the massive gap between the profits of zombie pirates and tormented demons drew flak from the community over alleged recency bias.

Jagex responded to the criticisms in a news post, saying that the studio opted for a more cautious loot table with tormented demons. It added that this has so far worked out well and is something that will continue to do moving forward, said PCGamer.

However, the studio did say that it has heard the community's feedback regarding the loot table for the new tormented demons. It added that it would be making some work to adjust them to make them more in line with the relative difficulty of accessing the enemies in the first place.

The While Guthix Sleeps was a very lengthy quest that was available in the original 2008 version of the game that is now known by players as Runescape 3. The quest itself marked a turning point for the MMORPG and was praised for its complexity and narrative elements, according to PCGamesN.
