Showcased at Gamescom 2023

Last August, The First Descendant was showcased at Gamescom 2023. Following this, the game entered early access playtests with an open beta. Minseok Joo, the game's director, emphasized that the studio is prioritizing honest feedback from players. He stressed that listening to players' voices is crucial to delivering a stellar gameplay experience. Nexon is keen to make The First Descendant something special.

An Evolved Looter Shooter

In an interview with Game Informer, Beomjun Lee, the head of Magnum Studios and lead producer of The First Descendant, discussed the game's main elements and the studio's ambitions. Lee highlighted that the game's main feature is the PvE co-op element. While this might seem familiar, Lee noted that the studio aims to expand what the game can become. He described it as an online shooter RPG and said they see it as the next generation of looter shooters.

This statement adds weight to the studio's promise, exciting fans of the genre. Designed for the next generation of consoles, the game will support crossplay and cross-progression.

The First Descendant is set in the futuristic city of Albion. Players control characters like Ajax, Valby, and Bunny, who are searching for the Ironheart, a device that can close the dimension allowing the Vulgus invasion. The game's sci-fi premise involves both the players' party, called "Descendants," and Karel, the Vulgus leader, searching for the Ironheart.

Despite concerns about microtransactions in free-to-play games, Lee assured that the team has a plan to keep players engaged. The game will adopt a seasonal approach with battle passes, expected to include cosmetics tied to the current season. Players will need to progress through the game to collect these items.
