PlayStation Stars Outage Surpasses 2011 PSN Hack, Imminent Return Expected

Sony has announced that its PlayStation Stars loyalty program will be back "in phased regional rollouts" after being offline for nearly a month. The program, which started in September 2022 in Asia and later expanded worldwide, has been highly popular among PlayStation users. However, the sudden outage last month left many users puzzled. Sony has now stated that PlayStation Stars will return soon.

Popular Loyalty Program Goes Offline

PlayStation Stars allows users to earn rewards by completing various campaigns and activities, such as earning specific trophies or being one of the first to platinum a title. Although many rewards are cosmetic, users can also earn points to convert into PlayStation Wallet funds.

The unexpected downtime, lasting longer than the infamous 2011 PSN outage, caused significant concern among the PlayStation community. Despite the prolonged outage, Sony has not explained the reason for it. The official PlayStation Stars website now confirms that the loyalty program will resume shortly.

Global Rollout in Phases

Sony conveyed through the PlayStation Stars website that the service would return soon in phased regional rollouts, thanking users for their patience and expressing eagerness to welcome them back. However, the exact timeline for the global rollout remains unclear, though some users in Asia report the service is already back online.

Earlier this week, PlayStation Network experienced another brief outage affecting PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users. According to GameRant, the network went down at around 9:30 AM CT on July 1 but returned a few hours later. In a related incident, Xbox Live also experienced an outage, preventing users from playing online games or using discs. Both services are now back online, but neither Sony nor Microsoft has disclosed the causes of the disruptions
