Developer Bungie just teased its plans for the future of its popular online first-person shooter, Destiny 2, including changes to various activities and a focus on world-building.
The announcement comes as the game just got true loot rain in the beloved Coil activity and Bungie said earlier this year that it was prepared to make it rain again. The developer also stressed how positive feedback from players has informed its plans moving forward.
Bungie on the Future of Destiny 2
In a statement, assistant game director Robbie Stevens said that part of Year 10 was them making sure that they gave a lot of focus to the individual Acts. He added that they have a lot of ways that they are considering to improve them.
Stevens added that they will be blending what they have done in the past and what they plan to do together over the next year or so.
However, he noted that this would include a lot of stuff coming in Year 10 first. He said that a lot of it would be used to build on the Coils and the Onslaughts, according to GamesRadar.
After Onslaught was first introduced in the Into the Light update, it has been preserved through the Vanguard playlist. Stevens also said that the first-person shooter will "build upon" Onslaught moving forward.

While Coil has rotated out of Destiny 2 with other seasonal content, it was said that its ideas and successes, especially the roguelike feel and variation, will continue to live on.
Steven said that they questioned how they could build an activity type that could be longer than the traditional Strike or Battleground.
The comments come as Bungie had previously said that The Final Shape and the end of the Light and Darkness saga will not mark the game's end. It added that the future of the first-person shooter MMO is slowly coming into focus with codename Frontier which is set for next year.
Focus on Worlds and World-Building
Stevens also reiterated that their approach to Year 10 was simply a build-up for what will come next to Destiny 2. He noted that they have been doing a linear style for a while now and wanted to start expanding on the game's worlds and world-building, said MSN.
The assistant game director also teased that the developers have a handful of characters and moments that they have already thought about. He said that they wanted to take the opportunity that was here to go back to some existing locations across Sol.
He also said that the shift away from linear storytelling was being called "TV-show storytelling" of the game and its more standalone experiences and Episodes. Stevens argued that the latter are easier to jump into and easier to engage in.
What all of this means is that players should not expect major narrative changes to Destiny 2 and it seems like the plans are smaller in scope. However, some fans are already speculating that this is the perfect time for Bungie to consider a sequel of the popular MMO shooter, according to VG247.
