Studio Ghibli-Inspired Mika and the Witch's Mountain Gets Official Release Date

Mika and the Witch's Mountain, which is a game that sports visuals that have seemingly been inspired by Studio Ghibli's art, got an official release date.

The game will be launching on Aug. 21, 2024, and will feature what the developers Chibig and Nukefist called a "mini open-world." Mika and the Witch's Mountain looks like the unofficial video game adaptation of Kiki's Delivery Service.

The latter was a Studio Ghibli film that tells the story of a witch who decides to go postal, but not in the Running with Scissors sense. Mika and the Witch's Mountain is a game about carrying packages using your broomstick while also investigating the titular mountain.

You will be able to fly through hoops in the sky and savor the visuals of an island that reminds some players of Super Mario Sunshine. The announcement of Mika and the Witch's Mountain's release date came alongside a new trailer.

The footage started with a cinematic but later transitioned to gameplay footage, showcasing the stunning visuals and smooth gameplay that the game features. The game has an early access version that will have the full main story of Mika and the Witch's Mountain, according to Rock Paper Shotgun.

The recent press release also promises that if players pull off "perfect deliveries," they will be able to get "unimaginable treasures." The game's developers are also planning to provide a free update that would allow players to pet animals, go fishing while riding on their broomstick, and participate in a minigame.

Fans can also expect to gain access to additional sidequests and dungeons that will flesh out the "hidden side" of the mountain. During the reveal of the official release date, the developer also confirmed that Mika and the Witch's Mountain will be coming to PC and Nintendo Switch.

In the game, players have the chance to befriend a variety of colorful NPCs, deliver packages, and work on reaching the top of the mountain. While Mika and the Witch's Mountain seems to be a cozy-style game, not everything is fun and games, said Yahoo.

A Cozy But Challenging Delivery Game

The things that will try to keep you from delivering your packages include the elements, such as water and wind, as well as animals, including birds.

Prior to Mika and the Witch's Mountain, developer Chibig also released Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara, which is another Studio Ghibli-inspired game that is a platformer with Wind Waker vibes.

Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara is a 3D platformer that is set in the rapidly expanding Mara universe and stars the titular Koa. She is a young cheeky girl who also starred in the studio's previous game, Summer in Mara.

But in this platformer, players are challenged to speedrun their way through a variety of challenging platformer levels. The base mechanics of Koa and the Five Pirates of Mara are simple enough to grasp.

They allow the difficulty of level design to escalate smoothly with every new area that is being introduced. However, some players struggled with negotiating platform versus jump height as Koa is a small character who has little airtime and a heavy drop-off, according to Escapist Magazine.
