Sony just announced that another beloved PlayStation 2 classic is coming to modern consoles later this year, and that title is Star Wars: Bounty Hunter.

The game is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles in August this year as a remaster more than two decades after the release of the original game. The enhanced edition will reportedly come with upgraded graphics and DualSense functionality on Sony's current-gen console.

In Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, players will be able to take control of fan-favorite mercenary Jango Fett in a third-person action-shooter game that comes with jetpacks and blaster pistols. The game places greater emphasis on staying mobile as the fairly open environments allow for a lot of aerial boosting and gliding.

The original PlayStation 2 version of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was met with relatively average reviews but has remained well-liked by a lot of players. The exact release date for the remastered version of the game is Aug. 1, 2024, according to Push Square.

Star Wars: Bounty Hunter is a prequel to Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and features Jango Fett tasked with capturing a Dark Jedi. The character is equipped with dual blasters, a flamethrower, toxic darts, and jetpack missiles.

The remaster is another revival effort by publisher Aspyr, which is currently working on fixing this year's disastrous launch of Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection.

The changes that the upcoming game brings include visual improvements, improved environmental textures, new dynamic lighting effects, and a new flashlight tool.

Additionally, the Star Wars: Bounty Hunter remaster will come with Steam Deck support on top of the DualSense controller features for PlayStation 5 users. The publisher also said that for the first time ever, if players complete the campaign, they can unlock a new Boba Fett skin for their next playthrough.

Director of product at Aspyr, Chris Bashaar, explained that the original Star Wars: Bounty Hunter has a very low-resolution texture with a message written in Aurebesh. It read, "Cash in all bounties to play as Boba," said IGN.

Brand New Features

He said that while the message did, in fact, exist in the original game, the feature that it was referring to did not. This means that even if players hit 100% at the time, they were only ever able to play as Jango Fett.

Bashaar said that the team brought the joke Easter egg to life in the remaster version by letting players equip a new Boba Fett skin after completing the upcoming game's campaign. Key features of Star Wars: Bounty Hunter include having players experience the legendary Bounty Hunter fantasy.

You will face off against various foes and you will have to maneuver your way through acrobatic battles in an adaptation that was optimized for modern consoles and hardware. But for PlayStation players, there are a couple of features that are unique to them.

These include integrated adaptive triggers letting each weapon in Jango's arsenal have its own rhythmic feel. Additionally, Aspyr has routed Jango's in-game radio communication to play through the DualSense wireless controller's speaker, giving an all-new immersive experience, according to the PlayStation Blog.
