Assassin's Creed Remakes: Ubisoft CEO Confirms Work in Progress

Multiple Assassin's Creed remakes are reportedly on the way, as confirmed by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

The Ubisoft CEO also said that there are worlds in some of the company's older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich. However, Guillemot did clarify that the series will have more gameplay variety between the entries that will be released.

While the goal of the effort is to release more Assassin's Creed games gradually, the Ubisoft CEO noted that they will not be the same exact experience every year. He also used the upcoming Assassin's Creed Shadows and Assassin's Creed Hexe as examples.

He said, "There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin's Creed Hexe, which we've announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin's Creed Shadows." He expects that the company will be able to surprise people, according to GameSpot.

One of the titles that are reportedly getting a remake is Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag which is codenamed Obsidian. If it does exist, it would line up with the new direction that the entire franchise is going with. However, it may not be coming to modern consoles for at least a few years.

Assassin's Creed Mirage, which was released last year, was designed to have a style and setting that was similar to the very first Assassin's Creed game but with modern touches. Now it looks like the studio is taking this one step further by fully remaking the titles in the series.

The rumor that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag is getting a remake comes as last year, a report noted that Ubisoft Singapore was heavily involved in the development of a reimagining of the fourth mainline Assassin's Creed game.

Potential Remake of Black Flag

Now that the particular game in the series is a decade old, the pirate-themed action-stealth title is still a fan favorite of many players. Despite the rumors and reports, Ubisoft has not officially confirmed that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will get a remake, said IGN.

The planned remakes come as one of the next mainline entries in the franchise, Assassin's Creed Hexe, was previously confirmed to be in development in 2022. The game is supposedly set in 16th-century Europe and is said to be targeting a 2026 launch.

Another title in the works is Assassin's Creed Jade, which focuses on mobility and is expected to come next year. The latest release in the series is Assassin's Creed Shadows, which is out on Nov. 15, 2024, and is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, according to Eurogamer.

Guillemot's comments also come in contrast to the fact that Ubisoft has never released a full-on Assassin's Creed remake in the past. This means that there are a lot of things here that the company can use as a reference to improve upon.
